The marble complex in the Isle of Youth is the only one among the four exsisting in Cuba to export its production to the international market, reported AIN (Cuban News Agency).
Jesus Perez Bermudez, manager of the complex stated that the first blocks of that fossil stone Gray Siboney color were exported to China and will be found in the Uruguayan market too.
He said the industry began this year without problems because they were provided with a stock of big stones, but they have to bring more than 130 cubic meters of that material from Sancti Spiritus province twice due to the shovel-truck is out of order.
"The obsolescence of the equipment made in Russia has limited our production capacity, which will be reverted after putting in motion other Italian equipment devoted to make desks, benches, etc", he stated.
The insertion of this industry in different social programs contributed to its revival after the nineties depression and last year's instability due to the lack of spare parts.
Since the first half of the 19th century, marble mining is a tradition in the Isle of Youth.
