Chinas crude steel output may reach 550 million tons this year, up 10 percent from 2008, said Luo Bingsheng, vice president of the CISA. New supplies of steel this year will likely surpass 100 million tons, up 25 percent.. Countermeasures to stem the trend of overcapacity, noted Mr Luo, included curbing output, eradicating outmoded capacity, pushing cross-regional mergers and acquisitions as well as technical updates.
