The new Genesis 400H gear hobbing machine for workpieces up to 400 mm diameter and module 8 mm supplements Gleason Corporation’s line of Genesis®hobbing machines in the medium-sized workpiece range. The 400H is designed to manufacture gears for trucks and off-highway vehicles (agricultural, construction equipment), along with universal job shop tasks involving parts of similar size and module range.
The 400H combines the series’ well-established functions with newer technologies that raise productivity. It is powered with high-speed drives to accommodate the most advanced cutting tools available, including high-speed steel and carbide hobs, including Gleason’s new G90 hobs. It is designed for dry or wet hobbing; a clean work area ensures that dry chips or cutting residue are effectively removed from the work zone.
The new machine can be configured individually, in that way addressing different shops’ requirements for automatic loading and conveyor systems. In addition to regular hobbing processes, the 400H employs process options for form milling/gashing, cutting of multiple/cluster gears, and skive hobbing, among other sequences.
Optionally, the 400H can be equipped with a "smart" solution for integrated chamfering and deburring.
The machine is alternatively fitted for dry or wet chip evacuation, and the respective dust or mist filter options. The entire work area is designed for optimal ergonomic effect — easily accessible, including a simple tool change mechanism that is novel for a machine of such size. An integrated power clamping system allows for adapting numerous workholding systems, including Gleason’s new Quik-Flex® Plus workholding for workpiece changes in less than 30 seconds.
The 400H is supported by the Gleason Global Service network, with spare parts centers and over 250 service professionals in major markets worldwide. The developer provides application support, cutting tools and workholding all from a single source.
