It is reported that most of silicon carbide enterprises in Gansu closed down affected by environmental protection, and there were also a small number of enterprises that had to start the production in order to ensure the stability of buyers, but they controlled the operating rate within 50%.

Affected by the shutdown, the inventory of silicon carbide was extremely tight in Gansu. Many enterprises that had been shut down, expressed that 98 silicon carbide had sold out, and the inventories of 97 silicon carbide will also run out. This also makes the market price of silicon carbide rise again under the condition of stable anthracite prices, and even some manufacturers said that the market prices of silicon carbide will continue to rise in January.

In late December, the market quotes of 98 black silicon carbide were around 5400-5600 Yuan/ton in Ningxia, with an increase of 400 Yuan/ton from the previous month; 97 black silicon carbide around 5300-5400 Yuan/ton, with an increase of 300 Yuan/ton from the previous month; 90 black silicon carbide around 3700-4000 Yuan/ton, with an increase of 100 Yuan/ton from the previous month.

According to the investigation for 16 silicon carbide enterprises’ operating rate in Ningxia, we learned that the operating rate was at just 47.5%. This is because Ningxia carried out the work of environmental protection management strictly, and the whole market of silicon carbide remained weak. In October, the rising anthracite prices made silicon carbide production cost increased, and in December, anthracite prices remained high, so silicon carbide enterprises had to adjust the prices about 100-400 Yuan/ton on the basis of different product index after consultation with purchasers under cost pressure.
