The majority of rocks suitable for dimension stone production is occur in Lower Silesia (granite, syenite, marble, dressing sandstone). Decorative limestone (Marble? and several types of sandstone are known in the Swietokrzyskie and Carpathian region, as well as particular dolomite deposits and travertine (f.ex. Raciszyn and Zalesiaki n. Pajaczeno) are of less importance.
The deposits of blocking granite are known in three massifs: Strzegom-Sob ka, Strzelin-Zulowa and Karkonosze and the reserves of these deposit are estimated to be 1331 mln t. In the Strzegom massif it is mainly the variety of biotite granite with medium size crystal. Strzelin Massif gives fine crystal granite, and the most important type in Karkonosze is a prophyry granite with a characteristic pinky shade. Other granite deposits in Poland (Kudowa Massif, Tatrsa) are of no industrial signficance becouse of ecological reasons.
Among other magmatic rocks also syenite is important as blocking stone. It occur in Niemcza (n. Zabkowice Slaskie) zone, and joint deposit value is up to 47 mln t. Two types may be destinguisheded: Przedborowa (fine crystal) and Kosmin (porphyry).
Among metamorphic rocks, marble, present only in Lower Silesia, are recognized as dimension stone. Marble deposits are investigated in the Kaczawskie Mountains (Wojciesz limestone), Krowiarki (n. Klodzko) range (e.g. White and Green Marianne) and Eastern Sudeten (Slawniowice), the reserves of 10 deposits is ca. 35 mln t.
Blocking sandstones are mostly known in Lower Silesia. Mainly the, so called, white dressing sandstone deposits are found ?in Stolowe Mountains (6 deposits, whit total reserves ca. 30 mln t.) and in Northern Sudety Depression in the Lwek Slaski region (3 deposits, reserves: around 10 mln t.). In the Swietokrzyskie Mts. region, white Szydlowiec sandstone (16 deposits, reserves ca. 82 mln t.), Suchednipetty, red (e.g. Kopulak) and Tumlin (e.g. Tumlin ). Godula sandstone from Brenna n. Bielsko-Biala region (5 deposits, ca. 4 mln t of reserves) is the most important in the Carpathians. Other types of Carpatian snadstone, Magura, Krosno, Ciezkowice , they are of minimal suitable for blocks production.
