The UK Government has cited a lab-grown diamond jewellery brand as an example of the positive impact expanding into international export can have on a business.
Chelsea Rocks works exclusively with lab-grown diamonds for its jewellery.
The brand has now been given a shout-out by International Trade Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, for its export success.
In a speech at the British Chambers of Commerce Annual Conference Trevelyan revealed plans to open up more export opportunities for British business, which she said could bring £20 billion to the UK economy.
She then mentioned Chelsea Rocks, saying: “Chelsea Rocks also contacted my team saying that they were struggling to export their products to Austria.
“Again, my team solved the problem and allowed the firm’s sales to jump by a fifth.
“These examples aren’t isolated victories. Barely a week goes by without adding another win to a list covering every continent and every part of the country.”
Chelsea Rocks founder, Joanna Park-Tonks, said: “I am thrilled that my jewellery company, Chelsea Rocks, has been chosen by the Department for International Trade to showcase our exporting success.
“As the campaign, ‘Made in London, Sold to Austria’ demonstrates, with the help of the local DIT team in Vienna, we were able to overcome exporting issues and have now been able to consider additional markets for future expansion.
“London will always be my inspiration and part of the brand DNA, but it is always the people who make a business.
“I am thankful for the export professionals on the ground in Vienna, helping us day to day, to bring our beautiful jewellery to our customers.
“Laboratory-grown diamonds are the fifth C [of the four Cs of diamond grading], a consumer ‘choice’, and can be construed positively both in terms of revenue potential and as an expansion, not a contraction, of the overall diamond retail offering.”
