In reaction to severe human rights violations, Diamond Geezer.com, the RapNet Diamond Trading Network and the Rapaport Group have called a ban on all diamonds from Zimbabwe’s Marange diamond fields.
The announcement comes after Zimbabwe's non-compliance with the KP Certification Scheme, designed to stem the flow of conflict diamonds.
In a recent media release, The Rapaport Group stated that blood diamonds may have been illegally exported and may even be reaching retailers.
Under the Rapaport Group boycott, all 4,100 RapNet members will be required to remove all RapNet listings of the Marange diamonds and/or any other diamonds suspected to be involved in infringements on human rights.
The group stressed that the ban only applies to those diamonds fro the Marange area and not all diamonds from Zimbabwe. The group also advised polished diamond buyers to take the imitative and inquire about the source of any diamonds with a greenish hue in the G-Z color, that may find their way to them.
