Alrosa, a company who has been selling rough diamonds to Gokran in very large quantities since the very start of the economic crisis, has now sold 30 billion rubles ($1 billion) worth of diamonds to the Russian state repository, idexonline.com reports.
Alrosa is headquartered in Yakutia, the Russian republic. The city holds a minority stake in the diamond mining company.
The president of Yakutia, Vyacheslav Shtyrov, reported the enormous sales figures during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin this last Monday evening.
“Diamonds are being sold and mining has stabilized,” Shtyrov said. “We've received the 30 billion rubles from sales to the State Fund [Gokhran].”
