Antwerp Facets reports that the Italian tax authorities will auction off soccer hero Diego Maradona’s diamond earrings as partial payment of the star's unpaid tax bill dating back to the 1980s.
The Italian tax authorities seized the diamond earrings from Maradona during his stay at an Alpine resort in northern Italy.
According to La Repubblica, the auction is scheduled for January 14, probably in northern Italy.
Due to the fact that the Bolzano tax police valued the earrings at 4,000 euros, they will cover only a fraction of the soccer star’s debt. Maradona, who is currently coaching in Argentina, owes income tax bills reaching almost 30 million euros from the time that he played for Napoli.
