Handan Steel has developed a kind of high-grade steel for auto beam, wheel and structure frame and is able to supply 80 percent of steel to be consumed by a car. The mill will become one of China’s major auto steel producers by around 2015. Among its advanced facilities to make auto steel are a 2,250 mm continuous hot rolled production line at the Handan New Space introduced from Germany’s SMS Dermg with an annual capacity of 4.6 million tons, a 2,180 mm cold rolled production line as a second phase at the New Area, which is due to be completed in June 2010 and capable of producing auto sheet covering more than 98 percent of all grades and high-grade home appliance steel. Having seized a third of steel wheel market share in Shandong, Handan Steel has begun exporting its products to Europe, the United States, the Middle East, South Africa, Russia and Japan in large quantities. The mill has also developed super deep drawing galvanized sheet for cars and made the province’s first batch of auto panel substrate with carbon content closing to world leading levels.
