Mining company Rockwell Diamonds announced Thursday that it had recovered several large diamonds – 50 carats and over in size. According to a PRNewswire report, the unique stones were found at the diamond company's Saxendrift and Holpan mining operations in South Africa.
Rockwell Diamonds said several of the large stones were produced just prior to the holiday season and others were recovered since mining operations restarted, on January 8.
According to the diamond miner's statement quoted by PRNewswire, the diamonds recovered were as follows:
A 52.40 carat clean light fancy yellow diamond from Holpan
A 60.52 carat light yellow octahedral diamond from Saxendrift
A 74.99 carat clean white irregular blocky stone from Saxendrift
A 54.23 carat light yellow broken macle stone with inclusions from Saxendrift
A 60.51 light yellow rounded flat stone with oxide coating and minor inclusions from Saxendrift
The diamond miner said the stones were being cleaned in order to ensure that their proper characteristics – color and clarity – are apparent for valuation by its experts.
