Chinese Economic Growth of 8.7% in 2009

The data issued by the National Statistics Bureau on January 21 indicated that in 2009, Chinese Gross Domestic Production (GDP) stood at RMB33.5353t, up 8.7% over the previous year on the base of calculation at comparable price.
In terms of quarter, the first quarter of 2009, Chinese economy saw a year-on-year increase of 6.2%, the second quarter 7.9%, the third quarter 9.1% and the fourth quarter 10.7%.
Statistics showed that in 2009, Chinese agricultural production continued to steadily grow, with industrial production recovering quarter by quarter. Total grain output throughout the year amounted to 530.82 million tons, up 0.4% from the previous year, increasing in yield for 6 consecutive years; industrial added value above designated size of this year rose 11.0% compared with last year, among which that in the fourth quarter increased 18.0%.
