Jwaneng diamond mine, the biggest single contributor to Debswana’s carat output, is expected to become fully operational again by 2012, the Sunday Standard said.
According to the report, production at the Jwaneng diamond mine, like in others in Debswana’s operations, was scaled back in 2009, in an effort to save on operational costs. The move saved the company an $20 million.
Compared with 2008, production at the Jwaneng diamond mine was down 33% in 2009. The diamond mine is expected to operate at 80% capacity in 2010 and 90% in 2011.
The Jwaneng diamond mine accounts to about 60-70% of Debswana earnings
