Two new ultra-hard types of diamonds were found in a meteorite from Finland, Discovery News reported.
The ultra-hard carbon crystals were discovered in the Havero meteorite, which fell to Earth in 1971.
According to the report, the diamonds were created out of graphite under the intense heat and pressure of a meteorite impact. Nevertheless, the scientists examining the findings said that while the new diamonds were definitely harder than regular diamonds, the crystals were too small to test for their actual exact hardness.
"The discovery was accidental but we were sure that looking in these meteorites would lead to new findings on the carbon system," Tristan Ferroir of the University of Lyon in France, told the website.
