As of the end of 2009, Masteel had applied 28 counts of patent for its scientific subject on the development and application of highly efficient construction steel. The mill has developed a number of such steel to date. It is estimated that the adoption of energy efficient steel could help the construction sector reduce the consumption of steel by 30 million tons per year, twice as much as Masteel’s annual output, hence lowering the use of iron ore by 55 million tons and standard coal by 20 million tons. This technology could also help Masteel create multi-million yuan economic benefits each year.
