The Viatera® brand of quartz surface will be produced in the United States, beginning late this year at a new Georgia facility.
Atlanta-based surface manufacturer LG Hausys announced plans yesterday to invest $50 million in a new Adairsville, Ga., plant to make the engineered stone. The 95,000 ft² unit, adjacent to the company’s HI-MACS® acrylic solid surface manufacturing facility, is scheduled to open this December.
“LG Hausys wants to reduce lead-times and better serve the growing consumer demand for quartz surfaces in the USA,” says Seogseung Hong, president of LG Hausys America. “LG Hausys is committed to the surfaces industry and will become the only domestic manufacturer of both quartz surface with its Viatera® brand products and solid surface with its HI-MACS® brand products.”
LG Hausys launched its Viatera® product line in 2005 with material imported from Italy.
“We have a broad network of sales, marketing and operations personnel to serve the industry in the most cost-effective manner possible,” says Greg Vas Nunes, LG Hausys Surfaces Division executive vice president. “Most consumers are not familiar with LG Hausys products but that is rapidly changing as our presence through retailers and the design community is quickly expanding.”
LG Hausys is a subsidiary of Seoul, South Korea-based LG Group, a worldwide conglomerate with revenues of $103 billion in 2008.
