Study on ultrasound-assisted electroplating technology of nickel, based diamond bit

Abstract: To shorten the production cycle of electroplated diamond bit and improve its performances, research was conducted on the technique of ultrasound-assisted electroplating. The technique of composite plating of nickel/ diamond in ultrasonic field was researched and ultrasound-assisted electroplating technique for diamond bit manufacture was established. Furthermore, Φ75. 5/49 electroplated diamond wire-line core bits, produced with established ultrasound-assisted electroplating technique, were tested by field drilling. The test results show that it’s better that the ultrasonic composite plating be applied when 1/5 of diamond height is imbedded by pre-plating in static state, and diamond grits will not fall out because of the oscillation. Four layers of dia-monds can be plated a day by ultrasound-assisted electroplating, so the production cycle of electroplated dia-mond bit was shortened by half. The result of field drilling test proved that average penetration rate increased by 33ï¼…and average bit life increased by 54. 6ï¼…compared with that of diamond bits made by conventional e-1ectroplating.
