Abstract: Two different kinds of diamond tools were prepared using ordinary diamond and special diamond treated by strong oxidation method. Their properties and service life were tested through a granite cutting experiment. The morphology of the tools was observed by SEM. The results show that the contact area and mechanical interlocking between diamond grains and matrix were improved due to lots of concaves appearing on the surface of diamond grains after strong oxidation treatment. The cutting efficiency and precision were greatly increased due to the decrease of nodules on the surface of diamond tools. The material removal amount of improved diamond tools using surface treated diamond is 1.3 times that of the tools prepared with ordinary diamond. The properties and service life of electroplated diamond tools were obviously improved by the surface treatment technology.
