In the light of the national policies to curb overcapacity and avoid overlapping construction in the steel industry, the Henan government plans to shut down all the blast furnaces below 400 cubic meters and electric furnaces or converters below 30 tons by 2011 and will further extend the size of blast furnaces to be scraped to 1,000 cubic meters by 2012, accounting for roughly 60 percent of the province’s total production lines.
