Sotheby’s to auction China's ceremonial pearl necklace

Post Date: 17 Mar 2010    Viewed: 467

A ceremonial pearl necklace from the 18th century Qing dynasty will be offered at Sotheby’s 2010 Spring Sale in Hong Kong. The necklace has an estimated price range of between $1.03 and $1.55 million.

“The coming sale will offer some important Imperial works of art that embody the power and glory of the Qing Emperors. The ceremonial court necklace made out of freshwater pearls from the Manchu homeland is both a sign of Manchu pride as well as a symbol of Imperial power.

The necklace matches one depicted in the formal portrait of Emperor Yongzheng and it is believed to be the same one,” said Nicolas Chow, Sotheby’s international head of Chinese ceramics and works of art.

The Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art 2010 Spring Sale, which will take place on April 8, will offer over 330 lots with an estimated total value of approximately $55.42 million.
