De Beers seeks African Diamonds retraction over share disposal dispute

Post Date: 18 Mar 2010    Viewed: 499

Diamond giant De Beers is seeking a full retraction from African Diamonds, following the latter's statement that De Beers failed to notify it of a disposal of shares, Jewelry & Diamonds reported.

“We take our regulatory obligations extremely seriously and confirm that we made the necessary filings in accordance with the relevant regulations. We are seeking a full retraction of the statement by African Diamonds,” De Beers said in a statement.

African Diamonds claimed, in a previous statement, that "1 million shares in an account controlled by De Beers have been sold or transferred without the company being notified," thus breaching Financial Services Authority (FSA) rules.

African Diamonds added it would be seeking an FSA probe into the matter.
