Report: India's gem, jewelry exports up 55% in February

Gems and jewellery exports from India added 55% in February, reaching $ 2.3 billion, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) said.
According to the GJEPC's provisional figures, quoted by SME Times, overall exports of showed a 54.96% growth, compared to $1.45 billion at of same period in 2009.
Overall growth in India's exports of jewelry products in 2010's first quarter, compared to the same time last year, was up 10.47%.
The report added that exports of gold jewellery products in February 2010 increased by 37.51%, colored gemstones exports spiked 89.85% and overall exports of cut and polished diamonds added 59.11%, compared to February 2009.
