Organizers of the 38th BaselWorld watch and jewelry show say that there was a 7% increase in attendance compared to 2009, bringing the total number of visitors to over 100,000, reports the National Jeweler.
The return of American buyers to the show also marks another positive following a lack of U.S. buyers at BaselWorld 2009, explain organizers, adding that their return symbolizes a general upturn in the market.
“In comparison to last year, this year’s show went much better. We welcomed more customers – especially from the USA – and received many more orders,” explains Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard.
Christoph Wellendorff, CEO of jewelry company Wellendorff which only participates at BaselWorld, says that the buyers’ trust and confidence is back in all markets. “Winners from the crisis are the authentic manufacturers and established brands. Wellendorff is profiting from this: we were able to improve again on the results of recent years,” he explains.
Buyers from the Gulf nations and Asia, however, were reported to be fewer this year, according to the National Jeweler.
