Alrosa Plans to Sell $900 Million Worth of Diamonds in Coming Quarter

Russian diamond company Alrosa plans to sell $900 million worth of rough and polished diamonds in the second quarter of 2010, having sold $925 million worth of rough diamonds in the first quarter of the year, according to the preliminary data from the company’s financial results for the first quarter.
In the first quarter of 2009 the company saw revenue of $96 million from rough diamond sales, while a year before that revenue from rough diamond sales was $614 million.
Alrosa produced 8.6 million carats of rough diamonds during the first quarter of 2010, marking a fall from production of 9.2 million carats in the first quarter of 2009. A year prior to that (the first quarter of 2007) Alrosa’s revenue from diamond sales was $617 million.
