South Korea's industrial output rose for the eighth straight month in February, hinting at a nearing recovery in the economy, a government report showed Wednesday.

According to the report by Statistics Korea, the local economy saw a 19.1 percent year-on-year expansion in the mining and manufacturing sector production in February.

The February reading stood lower than the 36.9 percent expansion tallied for January, the report said.

The report, meanwhile, said that the leading economic composite index fell 1.0 percentage point during the same period, falling for the second consecutive month.
