Experimental study of diamond impregnated drilling bit enhanced with CVD diamond pins

Abstract: in order to improve the drilling efficiency and working life of the bit, when drilling hard rock formations, a new type of diamond impregnated drilling bit enhanced with CVD diamond pins was designed and manufactured. The design and manufacturing process of the bit were introduced. Laboratory drilling tests with two types of diamond bits were conducted and compared. The results indicated that the bit enhanced with CVD diamond pins obtained higher drilling efficiency (up to 5.575m/h), little wear and longer service life. In addition, with the concentric edge design of the bit, the drilling process goes more steadily.
