Christie’s auction house is to offer one of the most important diamond rivieres ever to appear at auction on May 12 in Geneva. The diamond riviere, consisting of 20 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing a total of 155.17 carats, has an estimate of between US$1.8 million and US$2.4 million. Any diamond riviere above 150 carats is extremely rare, explains Christie’s, which says that the subtlety of the graduation and the lightness of the setting of the diamond riviere equally contribute to the beauty and appeal of the piece.
The diamond riviere is the highlight of the “Sparkle and Style” collection which has been assembled over the last 40 years.
“Christie's is honored to announce the sale of an important selection of precious stones and fine jewelry to be offered in Geneva on May 12, highlighted by one of most important diamond rivieres ever to appear at auction. The diamonds section will in fact play the star role, together with some of the most sophisticated pieces signed by the best international jewelry houses,” says Jean-Marc Lunel, Head of the Jewellery Department of Christie’s, which had global jewelry sales of over $270 million in 2009.
