U.S. Rough Diamond Imports Up Nearly 400% in February

Imports of rough diamonds to the United States, at $29 million, showed a revival in February, according to IDEX Online.
The country’s net rough diamond imports, at 48,239 carats, reached $12.58 million in terms of value, marking an average of $601.76 per carat. This represents a 391.5% increase in terms of value and a 126.4% increase in terms of volume.
The country’s polished diamond exports of 83,746 carats increased 182.3% to $16.45 million in terms of value. This represents a 34.8% year-over-year increase. The average value of $196.42 per carat represents a 109.5% increase compared to a year earlier.
Botswana was the leading rough diamond supplier to the United States, shipping $8.54 million worth of goods with an average value of $301.16 per carat, notes IDEX Online.
Some $7.71 million worth of rough, at an average of $504.45 per carat, went to Israel, the United States’ leading destination for rough diamond exports.
