The Marble Institute of America (MIA) will again honor the best of the backshop with the 2010 Natural Stone Craftsman of the Year.
The award recognizes an individual who’s shown outstanding work through a career of work and guidance to others in the trade, as with last year’s honoree: Randy Severson, general superintendent of Carrara Marble Co. in City of Industry, Calif.
Starting in the industry as an apprentice, a nominee should’ve worked through the ranks as a journeyman stone mason, foreman and superintendent.
The nominee also should have a track record of leadership and mentorship in educating fellow workers.
The competition is open to all MIA members. Potential honorees need to submit an application with career details and a current employer’s letter of nomination.
The entry should also include at least three descriptions and photos of completed projects and a written description of the candidate’s role in the project.
The deadline for entry is July 9, 2010. Judging will be done by a panel of three MIA member-company representatives.
The award will be presented at StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas in Las Vegas on Jan. 26. at the MIA Awards Luncheon. The 2010 award sponsor is Campolonghi Italia S.r.l. of Montignoso, Italy.
