ImaGem has announced that the diamond fingerprinting technology ImaGem Secure is currently available to consumers at Precision Gem Grading Lab in Philadelphia. ImaGem Secure, a patented technology, uses a non-invasive hierarchical imaging technique for identifying a diamond after it has been fingerprinted. Members of the diamond trade can lease or purchase the VeriGem machine from ImaGem to start using this service, though current owners of VeriGem must upgrade the VeriGem software to use the fingerprinting service.
“The launch of ImaGem Secure is particularly relevant at this time in the wake of recent developments regarding Gemprint technology,” said Dr. Lalit K. Aggarwal, Chairman and Founder of ImaGem Inc. “Many in the industry are inquiring if there is another technology available for fingerprinting a diamond. ImaGem Secure is fast and very affordable; it is providing an important loss/fraud prevention tool to the members of the trade and consumers,” he added.
ImaGem Secure can be used to register and verify rough, polished and mounted diamonds. It is used for inventory management, memo transactions, jewelry manufacturing and law enforcement programs. Retailers use ImaGem Secure to support buy-back and upgrade programs, and consumers can use this service to ensure a diamond is not switched during a transaction. The VeriGem machine is also used for direct measurement of light behavior for loose and mounted diamonds.
