In response to a joint protest by United States Steel, V&M Star LP and USWA, the American Department of Commerce announced on April 23 the punitive duties of between 32 percent to 98 percent on carbon seamless pipe and alloy pipe imported from China. The final verdict is due to be made in September 2010. The United States imported $487 million worth of seamless pipe from China in 2008 and $182 million worth last year.
