Fourteen-year old Peter Slowik from Strafford, New Hampshire, was visiting the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas with his dad, when he made an unexpected find – a 2.7-carat white diamond, hiding within a deep footprint made by a previous visitor.
Crater of Diamonds State Park is the world's only diamond-producing site open to the public. Other precious gems including amethysts, garnets, peridots and jaspers, can also be found in the crater.
According to the Foster Daily Democrat, nine, 1-carat diamonds have been found in the diamond park in the past.
The ice cube-shaped diamond is the 200th gem found at Crater of Diamonds State Park this year. Slowik chose to name his diamond "Arkansas Ice."
The largest diamond ever discovered in the United States – a 40.23 white diamond with a pink cast named "Uncle Sam" – was discovered at the site in 1924.
