A new video has been uploaded to the Israel Diamond Institute website that shows the theft of a 15 carat diamond during a diamond show a number of months ago. In the footage you can see the preparation for the diamond switch as well as the actual replacement of the 15 carat diamond with a cubic zirconium.

Some words of advice to prevent diamond thefts:

Do not take your eyes off the buyer – not to use a calculator; not to look at a price book.

Don’t leave more than one open box on the table.

After a buyer touches a diamond, do not allow them to return the diamond to the box by themselves.

Most importantly – weigh the diamond before returning it to the box.
