Thermal Analysis of Deep Grinding

ABSTRACT: In the study, two unsteady-state thermal models are presented for deep grinding based on the model of plane heat source moving obliquely along the surface of a semi-infinite solid. It was found that the time required for the grinding temperature to reach a quasi-steady-state in creep-feed grinding is much longer than in high efficiency deep grinding. Temperature either on workpiece ground surfaces or along the contact zone are closely related to the depth of cut.
