The International Gemological Institute (IGI) intends to expand its Eco Series Reports to include an "Attestation of Origin" for each item described on it. IDEX Online reported.
IGI said the decision to use the reports will provide an assurance that submitted items are in full compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, the Clean Diamond Trade Act and the USA Patriot Act, as well as that metals are made from recycled materials.
Initiated in 2008, the Eco Report Series has offered IGI clients conservational grading reports using recycled and biodegradable paper and soy and water-based inks.
“We at IGI understand the necessity to provide consumers luxury products without sacrificing sustainability,” said Jerry Ehrenwald, IGI CEO.
“The Eco Series Reports give jewelers a way to show consumers their ecological commitment and offer a means to distinguish environmentally-friendly fine jewelry products.”
