China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation (CGNPC) will purchase overseas resources of natural uranium of 170,000 tons, CGNPC general manager He Yu said at an interview with Xinhua News Agency.
This overseas purchase will provide the company with the capacity to support 40 generator units of a million kilowatt for a period of 26 years and the company intends to put one or two into construction annually.
By 2020, China's installed nuclear power capacity is expected to increase from 9.08 to at least 70 million kilowatts from which 50 million kilowatts is CGNPC's to accomplish.
Currently, the company's installed wind power capacity is at over 1.5 million kilowatts, with projects of over 1.7 million kilowatts under construction.
The annual power generating capacity of CGNPC is expected to reach 185 billion kilowatts after all nuclear power machines are brought into commercial use, reducing 65.8 million tons of coal, 183 million tons of greenhouse gases.
