Analysis of Machining Precision of Face Grinding Groove Bottom with Cup CBN Quill

ABSTRACT: The experimental research on wheel grain size and machining process parameters affecting ground surface roughness, corner radius between groove bottom and groove flank is carried out in grinding groove bottom by using cup CBN wheel with shift(named CBN quill). When using electroplated CBN wheel, the CBN grain size being raised up from 230 to 80”, the ground surface roughness Rz is stabilized, but the coiner radius is remarkably increased because the CBN grains are random on the wheel surface. In view of above analyses, a new type of cup CBN quill is developed. Its ground surface roughness Rz under 4μm and comer radius rn 0f 0.08~0.05mm can be reached.
