China Sets up the Third New Area in Chongqing to Boost Growth in West China

Following the Shanghai Pudong New Area and Tianjin Binhai New Area, China’s third new area of national level, Chongqing “Two-River New Area” was officially established on June 18. As the only municipality in West China, Chongqing will focus on exploring the new model of inland opening-up and boosting the new growth of scientific development in western area.
Since China’s launching of west development strategy in 2002, the western provinces have entered the period of rapid development. As the only municipality in West China, Chongqing has experienced much more changes than any other city in this region. Experts said that the purpose of China’s setting up of the third national new area in Chongqing was to seek a breakthrough for the new round of western development.
