MIIT: Added Value of Industries above Designated Size in May Rose 16.5% Year-on-Year

In May, the industrial production maintained a stable and fast growth, and the growth of the heavy industry continuously declined for the production of high energy-consumption industry slowed down; industrial export accelerated recovery to have recovered to the level before the outbreak of the international financial crisis and the purchasing price index of raw material, fuel and power continuously rose, with the pressure of production cost of enterprises rising.
In the month, the added value of industries above designated size rose 16.5% year-on-year (while rising 8.9% in the same period last year), with the growth speed declining 1.3 percentage points from a month earlier for the gradual rise of base last year and other factors. From January to May, the added value of industries above designated size rose 18.5% year-on-year, with the growth speed up 12.2 percentage point year-on-year. Taking the same period of 2008 as base, the average growth speed from January to May in recent two years is 12.2%, of which the average growth speed in May is 12.6%.
The light industry witnessed a basically steady operation while the growth speed of the heavy industry continuously declined. In May, the added value of the light and heavy industries (above designated size, the same below) rose 13.6% and 17.8% year-on-year respectively, with the growth speeds dropping 0.5 and 1.6 percent points from a month earlier respectively. From January to May, the added value of the light and heavy industries rose 14% and 20.5% year-on-year respectively; and taking the same period of 2008 as base, the average growth speeds from January to May in recent two years are 10.9% and 12.9% respectively.
The production growth in the high-energy-consumption industry declined more seriously than all the industries above designated size. In May, the added value of six large high-energy-consumption industries rose 16.5% year-on-year, down 2.1 percentage points from a month earlier, with the growth speed 0.8 percentage points faster than all the industries above designated size.
