Russian diamond giant Alrosa has published its mid-year diamond market outlook Thursday.
The diamond company's executive summery reviewed the global supply and demand conditions for rough diamonds between 2010 and 2018 and the resulting opportunities for producers.
Based on supply projections, Alrosa said it expects rough diamond production to return to pre-recession, 2008 levels no earlier than 2015.
Based on the outlook of each of the main diamond jewelry markets – the United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Japan and the Middle East – Alrosa believes that the demand for diamonds is expected to grow by 33% over the next eight years.
The Russian diamond monopoly further hedged that as a result of what would become a "fundamental imbalance between supply and demand," rough diamond prices in 2018 may be 31% higher in real terms as compared to pre-crisis 2008 levels.
