Centre for Research and Development Trust Executive Director Farai Maguwu, whose arrest by Harare authorities sparked ongoing controversy, has reportedly admitted that his organization authored the document that police are using in his case.
Maguwu is being charged with publishing and communicating statements prejudicial to the State.
According to All Africa, Maguwu's admission followed his testimony in yet another bail hearing. Maguwu said his organization drafted a document on Chiadzwa diamonds, but denied circulating it. His lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, argued that his continued remand infringed on his constitutional rights.
Maguwu told the court he would not interfere with witnesses and will abide by any bail conditions. He denied having links to any of the people the State is accusing him of having circulated the document to.
"I do not think that there is any reasonable suspicion that I will interfere with investigations. I am willing to be subjected to stringent bail conditions so as to interfere with extraterritorial investigations," he told the court.
The State asked the court to remand Maguwu for an additional 10 days, pending the completion of the investigation against him. Ruling on the remand has been postponed pending the testimony of a witness for the State.
