To lower purchase costs and win more consumers, China Telecom, the nation's third largest telecom operator in terms of net profit, and the Taiwanese telecom operator, Asia Pacific Telecom, will introduce the code division multiple access, better known as (CDMA), version of iPhone, according to media reports Sunday.
Apple will launch the phone with the new system next year through the US telecom operator Verizon, and then cooperate with telecom operators in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Taiwanese telecom operator responded to the news saying that it is evaluating the cooperation agreement with China Telecom, and if it meets all requirements, the firm may introduce the phone into Taiwan. But the only problem yet to be solved is the combination of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards and phone body.
Industry insiders showed that in the CDMA version of iPhone that Apple released recently, the SIM cards are attached to the body of the phone, and Verizon and KDDI use this standard, while China Telecom and the Taiwanese operator adopt the standard in which the SIM cards can be separated from the phone, therefore if the iPhone4 launches the separation version, it will have the opportunity to be introduced into Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
