Three Chinese enterprises have entered the top 10 of Fortune's latest Global 500 company ranking released Thursday, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The three enterprises Sinopec, State Grid and China National Petroleum Corporation were ranked in seventh, eight and tenth place, respectively.
With its business income totaling $408.2 billion, Wal-Mart regained top place on the list, followed by Royal Dutch Shell with an income of $285.1 billion. Exxon Mobil took third place.
The number of Chinese enterprises on the list reached a new record of 54 compared with 43 last year. Most of the Chinese enterprises on this year's list made the ranking because of their efficient measures to cope with unprecedented challenges and intense competition during the global financial crisis.
Companies based in some of the major developed economies of the world suffered from the economic downturn in 2009. The actual gross domestic product of the United States, European Union and Japan decreased by 2.4 percent, 4.1 percent, and 5.2 percent respectively during the same period. In addition, soaring unemployment rates wilted consumer demand, leading to a big slump in the revenue and profit of the enterprises in these regions.
