During the morning session of the meeting of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, the President of the Israel Precious Stones and Diamond Exchange, Shlomo Eshed, suggested that the Federation approach jewelry fair organizers in an effort to get them to change the dates of fairs so that they don’t coincide with religious holidays. Shlomo Eshed explained that when the Hong Kong show coincides with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) it reduces the number of days that a Jewish exhibitor can participate, thus making participation unfeasible from a financial point of view.
Eshed’s suggestion received the support of the London Bourse President, Freddy Hager, who serves as Chairman of the Trade and Promotion Committee of the WFDB, Honorary Life President of the WFDB Shmuel Schnitzer, WFDB President Avi Paz and more.
The President of the Australian Diamond Exchange, Rami Baron, remarked that it is safe to assume that conference organizers can not change the dates for this year or next year, but that they could work to suit the dates for four or five years down the line.
