Monuments in India attract a lot of tourists each year. There are several monuments famous for its architecture, artefacts, and splendid works of sculpture. These depict the tradition and culture of age old India. The motifs, carvings, and type of construction material used is subject to preservation by the committee of Archaeological survey of India.
The square structure of the Charminar built by Muhammad Qutb Shah is a piece of graceful architecture. The top provides a panoramic view and resembles a minaret. There is a wide built area exclusive for Friday mosque prayers. Charminar is a mortar and granite façade. The moldings of the structure are further highlighted with illumination and the sight is spell binding. This is the pride of Hyderabad and the nearby market is famous fort the sale of bangles.
The Kutub minar at Mehrauli, Delhi is a UNESCO listed site. There are 379 steps to go atop the minar. This is the tallest minar in the world and the specific purpose of building the minar is not yet known. Ideally constructed for calling of prayers this minar might also be symbolic of Islam or victory. Quaranic verses on red stone carvings adds to its beauty.
The Great King Ashoka constructed The Ashoka pillar which represents the Buddhist teachings. The Gol Gumbaj in Karnataka is another marvelous piece of architecture. The dome shape also hosts a whispering gallery. The echo effect is well felt by all the visitors as a clap or hush resounds in the gallery. The red fort or the Lal killa is a another Mughal architecture site which also houses the Drum house originally as a place of entertainment for the rulers in those days. The place offers sale of carpets and antique pieces to visitors.
