IGE Resources reported selling 2,938 carats of rough diamonds in Luanda, Angola, from the Cassanguidi mine. Proceeds from the sale of approximately $473,000 reflected an average price of $161 per carat. The price was somewhat lower than rough prices achieved during a June sale of Cassanguidi rough, reflecting a predominance of smaller stones at this sale, according to IGE.
IGE is preparing to increase rough diamond production in southern Africa. The Cassanguidi mine is the first of three IGE diamond mines expected to be in full production early in 2011.
