Japan's June Polished Diamond Imports Up 18%

Japan imported 212,235 carats in polished diamonds in June – a 35.4 increase in volume, while the value of polished imports rose 18% to $60.1 million.
According to diamond world, there was a 13% drop in the average price of the diamonds to $283 per carat.
Imports from India rose 19% to $24.9 million, diamond imports from Belgium increased by 2% to $13 million and diamonds imports from Israel added 19% to $6.1 million.
Within the span of six months ending 30 June 2010, the country’s polished imports rose by 6% in value to $334.5 million but dropped 3% in volume to 1.132 million carats.
An 8% rise was noted in the average price to $295 per carat.
