The Gemological Institute of America announced it would open its new Hong Kong Laboratory on September 1.
The lab is described as a state-of-the-art facility and will offer on-site services for GIA Diamond Grading Reports and Diamond Dossiers for diamonds weighing 0.15 to 2.99 carats.
The GIA lab will also provide laser inscription and diamond sealing services.
“We are pleased to be able to offer more services to the Asian market,” said Tom Moses, Senior Vice President of GIA Laboratory and Research. “This new location will make it possible for us to provide even quicker service to our clients.”
Once the lab opens, the existing GIA Hong Kong Service Center will close permanently. The last day for submitting and receiving stones at the Hong Kong Service Center will be Friday, August 27.
The GIA said that clients can also take advantage of GIA’s gemological services during the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2010.
During the expo, the GIA will offer GA Colored Stone Identification Reports, and GIA Colored Stone Origin Reports for ruby, sapphire and emeralds.
