Israel-based diamond company Dalumi reported the loss of a box of diamonds on the penultimate day of the IIJS 2010 expo, Diamond World reported.
The show organizers immediately closed all gates. Each visitor was then thoroughly checked before being allowed to leave.
Meir Dalumi confirmed that the company suspected the loss of a high value parcel of loose diamonds, but was unable to confirm its exact value, nevertheless, initial reports from IIJS 2010 valued the parcel at $1 million.
Representatives of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council said that Dalumi would have to file a police report and it was a matter for the police to investigate.
The GJEPC pledged its full cooperation with the investigation, including handing over CCTV tapes etc. However, at the time of going to press it was not clear whether a police complaint had indeed been filed, as Dalumi was still checking its stock.
