Enhancing Truing Ratio and Dressing Performance of High Speed Vitrified CBN wheels using Speed Reversal Method

Grinding efficiency improvement equated to material removal rate is widely seen through deployment of wheel speed parameter. The enhanced wheel speed demands usage of super-abrasive wheels which has high bonding strength and cutting ability. Although a vitrified type CBN/Diamond wheel has superior bonding and cutting qualities, the widespread usage is hampered by difficult and in-efficient wheel preparation processes. This paper introduces a new speed reversal method of vertical cup dressing that enhances the truing rate by 2 to 3 times and hence complements the precision grinding. Also this method has successfully removed the bonding materials to expose grit without roughening.
